Dhikala Forest Lodge

The Dhikala area of Corbett National Park is probably the finest unspoilt and abundant in wildlife area existing in Northern India, very rich source of wildlife, fauna and flora and that has extreme natural beauty. The vast dense grasslands called "Chaurs" like the "Savanah" in Africa exist only here. The Dhikala Forest Lodge built in the year 1936 is situated on the edge of the Ramganga Reservoir overlooking the forested hills of Kumaon & Garhwal. An overnight stay here provides the real wildlife experience with the opportunity of doing Elephant rides, Jeep Safaris and spending mid mornings on observation towers overlooking the Ramganga river and water holes. It is 50 km away from the Ramnagar Railway Station.Dhikala is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Corbett National Park. It is situated at the perimeter of the broad Patli Dun valley through which the Ramganga surge in several channels. Visiting Dhikala proves to be a perfect jungle expedition. Tourists who have been there swear by its impeccable beauty and calmness. The nearby forest safari routes are abundant of grassland, water body and thick forest, thus it turns out as the best place in Corbett for animal sightings. Dhikala provides tremendous uninterrupted picturesque view of the valley, with the Kanda ridge in the Backdrop.Dhikala Chaur, is one of the widest grasslands of the park and Phulai Chaur are visible form the tourist complex. Natural sightings of wild elephants, Chital, Hog Deer and many grassland birds and raptors are possible while taking a drive through the various trails over the Chaurs

Dhikala Forest Lodge is the long-familiar destinations in Corbett. It is placed at the edge of the Patli Dun valley. River Ramganga flows in numerous channels from there. Dhikala offers a superb uninterrupted panoramic sight of the valley, with the Kanda peak in the backdrop. This sight seems as much more imposing the tower in the vicinity Dhikala. The Tourist complex on Dhikala chaur ( one of the last large meadows of the Park) and Phulai chaur. A reader through the many paths through chaurs is rewarded by the observations for the wild elephants, chital, the stag of pigs and many species birds of the meadows and the raptors. Old convalescent home in Dhikala is a historical structure, having been built more than a hundred of years.

Sarapduli Forest Lodge

Sarapduli forest lodge is on Dhangarhi-Dhikala road. It is located downstream from Gairal on the dish of the southern bank Ramganga while the northern bank is drawn up vis-a-vis a strong peak. Movement of the large mammals (tigers, elephants included) is very high, in Sarapduli. It is also a good place to see the crocodiles and also a good thing for the observation of birds.

Sultan Forest Lodge

Sultan is the first forest lodge during the driving way of Dhangarhi with Dhikala. Sultan is named after the Stupid Sultan, the seasonal flow which crosses this area. It is characteristic in the dense zone of forest.

Gairal Forest Lodge

Gairal forest lodge is reached by a short turning with broad of Dhangarhi-Dhikala forest main roads. It is located on banks of Ramganga close to the place where the first entry gate of the park. In Gairal Ramganga the portrait d' a character different from this fact at places downstream (like Dhikala). Here, it acts; a crystal clear, fast, which runs river of mountain which runs through the picturesque forests. To be out of the way, Gairal presents ideal conditions to look at fauna and the birds in all peace.

Khinnanauli Forest Lodge

Khinnanauli is situated in the middle of Khinnanauli chaur, this forest lodge is an excellent tiger territory. It is one of most recently built convalescent homes Corbett. Its strategic site offers an easy escape to the various parts of the park.

Kanda Forest Lodge

Kanda Forest Lodge is the highest forest lodge (nearly 1 km altitude) in the Jim Corbett National Park. Kanda is more in north of Corbett National Park. To be at the top, you have an advantage of experiment and find image all the valley with Ramganga point angle. Kanda located in the north of the park is also known as that the neighbour of The Himalayas for its resemblance to the Himalayas in terms of climate, vegetation and fauna. Here, you obtain the true feeling of the Himalayas.

Canter Safari

Canter Safari in Corbett is the best option for those who reside outside the Dhikala Zone and wish to sight the wildlife of the area. Canter is a 16 seater open air bus that drives from Ramnagar to Dhikala and then back to Ramnagar. For canter safari also one needs to make prior booking using the official website.

Chaurs (Grass Lands)

Dhikala is famous for the vast grassland that is packed with Elephants, Spotted Deers, Wild pigs, Hog Deersetc. Often visitors can spot a wild Tiger crossing the grassland or chasing a deer.

Watch Tower

Watch tower situated at Dhikala is perfectly located and enables you to get an excellent view of wildlife which are come for grazing into the nearby chaurs, It also gives you an excellent view of entire ramganga riverbed as well as a large section of Dhikala chaur.
This watch tower is located at a 10 mins walk from Dhikala forest rest louse. There is a man made waterhole around fifty yards to the south of the watchtower which makes it the perfect place to spot Deers, elephants, wild pigs and occasionally a Tiger.

Crocodile Point at Gairal

Crocodile pool is located on the short cut from Gairal to the other rest houses west of it. It is also a balcony-like natural structure, which looks down upon a pool almost permanently inhabited by crocodiles.

Sambar Trail

This jungle track extends from the base of the Dhikala watchtower till the Khinanauli rest house. This area probably has the maximum sighting of tigers in the area.This is due to its ideal location between the hills on one side and the riverbed on the other. Most of the animals cross over in this area while moving down for water. Elephants are also frequent visitors to this track and it is important to be able to reverse your vehicle as easily as you drive it forward, if you plan to drive down this way just before sunset in the summer months. A couple of Serpant Eagles also had their nest high up in a tree beside this track. If patience is one of your virtues, it can almost be guaranteed that this track will not send you back disappointed.
One can spot several types of Deers when in the zone this includes Spotted Deer and others like Para (Axis pornicus), The Sambar (Cervus unicolor), Kakkar (Muntiacus muntjak) which is also called the barking deer due to the hoarse sound it makes resembling the bark of a Dog.
It is one of the best places on earth to spot a tiger and wild elephants.
This area is also bird watchers dream destination. The surrounding forests and the large water body supports a wide diversity of birds in the area.
The chances of spotting a sloth bear are very high in this section of forest. They are attracted by both termites and the sweet nectar of Mahua floweINR The bears have been recorded in intoxicated state when the Mahua ferments in their digestive system.
